Love Out Loud (Peace and Justice Reading Circle)

Love Out Loud, the Sierra Pacific Peace and Justice Reading Circle, meets the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month, and takes place from 6:30 - 8 p.m. Pacific.

Hello Justice Seekers!

We would like to announce that our next book for Love Out Loud will be “The Second: Race and Guns in a Fatally Unequal America,” by Carol Anderson. When we first started Love Out Loud, it was in response to the Black Lives Matter uprisings of 2020. We met in an effort to become more anti-racist and to actively work against white supremacy.

As we continued our learning, we recognized that many justice issues are linked and overlap with one another. We expanded our focus to include this intersectional lens – we’ve read books about gender, body image, food justice, and indigenous wisdom. With our next book, “The Second,” we will continue to learn about how justice issues are linked, this time with racism and guns.

At our most recent World Conference, the church voted to approve legislation around racial justice with WCR 1326. In addition, we have been on a journey of discernment about nonviolence as a faith movement. “The Second” is a historical look at the anti-black roots of the Second Amendment, and how the racist history of that amendment has lived on today. Join us to read this important book, learn together, and live into our sacred calling as Community of Christ.

In love,

Emily
